Wounded Brumbies crushed by Crusaders

The ACT Brumbies hung with the almighty Canterbury Crusaders for the first thirty minutes of the Super 14 opener in Christchurch, before injuries and sheer lack of possession and territory broke the visitors resistance, culminating in a Crusaders 34-3 crushing.
Adding to the Brumbies woes is a serious injury to their most dangerous attacking player, centre Adam Ashley-Cooper. The World Cup winger was taken off the field with an ankle sprain in the 28th minute. At that stage the game was tied at 3-3 and it was not a coincidence that the Brumbies fell apart shortly after. Ashley-Cooper will miss at least a week.
Mose Tuiali’i scored the first of his two tries in the 32nd minute, giving the Crusaders valuable breathing space. A glut of possession led to another Tuiani’I try, seemingly breaking the backs of the opposition. The last ten minutes saw the Crusaders earn a bonus point, thanks to tries to Brad Thorn and Daniel Carter.
Ashley-Cooper wasn’t the only walking wounded, with Brumbies centre Gene Fairbanks requiring an x-ray on his shoulder.
