Women: Hingis through in straight sets

Martina Hingis has eased into the third round of the US Open, with a 6-2, 7-5 win over France’s Pauline Parmentier.

“I dont feel like I can underestimate anyone out there,” Hingis said. The 16th seed will play Victoria Azarenka from Belarus next, with a round of 16 clash with 4th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova

Kuznetsova was given a scare by Frenchwoman Camille Pin, losing the second set before winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-0.

7 seed Nadia Petrova had a straight sets win, as did fellow Russian Anna Chakvetadze.

11 seed Patty Schynder advanced also with an easy victory.

22 seed Katarina Srebotnik from Slovenia and 24 seed Francesca Schiavone from Italy were eliminated.
