Wayne Carey dumped by 3AW for Nathan Buckley

Dual premiership AFL player Wayne Carey has been dropped from 3AW’s football team following his arrest at his Port Melbourne home.

Carey was doused with capsicum spray after an alleged domestic dispute, with the former Kangaroos and Adelaide Crows play refusing to let police into his apartment.

Carey as of yet has not been charged.

3AW morning host Neil Mitchell revealed that management had decided to dump Carey, who has a history of inappropriate off field behaviour.

“He had a one-year contract and it had been reconsidered. He’s out,” Mitchell told listeners.

Carey was unsigned at the time of the incident, with his one year deal ending at the conclusion of the 2007 AFL season.

Station boss Graham Mott has confirmed Carey will be replaced by recently retired Collingwood captain Nathan Buckley.

“When Nathan Buckley became available we were always going to go with someone we thought could handle the job,” Mott told The Herald Sun.

Carey’s other media employer, Channel Nine, has yet to decide whether it will take action against the Footy Show and Footy Classified panel member.
