Shaun Tait’s shock decision to put his career on hold because of physical and mental exhaustion has been met with mixed reaction.Tait claims his enjoyment of the game dwindled as the South Australian battled his way through injury back to the Australian team. Tait’s test career suffered a blow when his return at the WACA against India was poor. Tait was sparingly used by captain Ricky Ponting. When Tait was employed, his control was non-existent, taking a match total of 0/92 off 21 overs. Former test veteran Mark Waugh is stunned at the turn of events.“What’s he going to do? Go and work in the council for $30,000 a year?” Waugh told Radio 2UE.“He’ll miss it.”
Waugh is an unabashed fan of the 24 year old firebrand; “I rate him very highly”.
Tait’s decision to ice his career was made in consultation with the South Australian Cricket Association medical officer.
“He mightn’t realise what he’s missing here,” Waugh said. “He’s got a chance to be one of Australia’s great fast bowlers.”
“He might be getting some bad advice.”
