Warne and Murali put on united front
A rampant Shane Warne and sheepish Muttiah Muralitharan have ended their ‘lovers tiff’.
The pair played down their simmering feud, which was ignited on Tuesday when Warne used his newspaper column to call for Murali’s action to be tested under match conditions, prompting Murali to call Warne a ‘miserable man’.
Both were in Hobart, at the unveiling of the Warne/Muralitharan trophy, which will perpetually be awarded to the winner of Australia/Sri Lanka test series.
“I’ve got absolutely no issue with Murali and his action, or anything like that,” Warne said today.
“All I said in my column, that I wrote, that common sense should prevail, if the umpires, or anybody think (sic) that has any issue with, um, an action - I’m not saying Murali before you all jump the gun - I was saying anyone in world cricket, should be tested in match conditions.
“If anyone else wants to make something of that, or think I’m attacking Murali, that’s not the case.
“I’m good friends with Murali. When the tsunami hit I asked him what I could do.”
Murali was more succinct about the relationship.
“We’ve patched things up. I would say it was a miscommunication, more than anything else,” Murali said.
Today’s comments from Warne are a far cry from the piece he penned for Tuesday’s News Limited papers.
“I think for his own peace of mind and everyone in world cricket, do the testing in the heat of battle — a Test match. Surely the ICC, Sri Lanka and Murali would want that,” Warne wrote.
