Vukovic farce makes D’arcy ban even worse

Now that Olyroos goalkeeper Danny Vukovic has been given a Beijing reprieve by the Football Federation, I wonder if AOC chief John Coates will step in and put the kybosh on Vukovic’s Olympics like he did Nick D’arcy’s.

After all, Vukovic has actually been found guilty of doing something wrong.

The selective suspension given to Vukovic is pure genius. We’ve gone from a statement-making nine month ban, to a two-part mini-series, farmed out like the first two Lord Of The Rings movies, with a nice gap in between for effect.

What a delightful coincidence that break just happens to fall smack back in the middle of Beijing.

And Vukovic thought he was the one giving out the slaps on the wrists.

The convenient suspension hiatus. It’s a groundbreaking concept. Don’t be surprised if it catches on. We can now forgo the complicated points system used in the AFL and NRL, with its unnecessary discounts and grading structure.

Dangerous tackle? Five months.

Melee? Five months.

What a statement for the governing bodies to make. They can huff and puff, but with those five months happening to fall between October and February, clubs could have their best talent on tap all season.

Everyone can be a winner.

Danny Vukovic has been handed a punishment that now doesn’t punish Australia. Forget morality or common sense, there’s a gold medal to be won. Isn’t that the most important thing in this country?

What a shame D’arcy just happens to swim in an event that is dominated by a bloke called Michael Phelps.

Disagree with you. I reckon FFA is spitting chips over it.

Danny V’s original 15 months was too harsh, especially when viewed against Barry Hall’s deliberate king hit a few weeks ago which got 7 weeks. And there’s no comparison with D’Arcy allegedly bashing someone to the point where the person bashed will need plates in his face for the rest of his life. D’Arcy has a drinking and violence problem allegedly; Vukovic got frustrated in the 93rd minute of a Grand Final after the referee made a very bad mistake. Danny ends up missing 25 games in total (international and A League), spread over an 8 month period but totaling 6.5 months.

I think it’s a brilliant solution. Congratulations to the FFA independent appeals committee.
