Vukovic breaks silence after reprieve

Almost a week since having his suspension for hitting a referee reduced, Olyroos goalkeeper Danny Vukovic has spoken about his excitement and relief now that he is eligible to play at the Beijing Olympics.

“I’m obviously very happy with the decision, to have my Olympic dream still alive,” Vukovic told AAP.

Vukovic was originally handed a nine month ban for striking referee Matthew Breeze in the dying stages of the A-League grand final. An appeal led to the Football Federation splitting Vukovic’s ban in two parts, allowing a gap for Beijing.

“It’s a great feeling but I’m still not there,” he told AAP.

“I’m very sorry for what I did and I apologised to (Breeze) straight after the game.

Vukovic will take part in a pre-Olympics camp on Thursday, despite the first part of his suspension not ending until June 28.
