Trackwork resumes at Randwick

Thoroughbreds have appeared on racetracks in New South Wales for the first time since Friday, but a return to racing is still uncertain.
Security was tight at Randwick, with only a handful of runners on track. All entrances were monitored and service vehicles were not allowed to enter.
Despite this mornings progress, as well as last nights negative results for four horses suspected of carrying equine influenza, officals are cautious.
“The only good news we’ve had so far was the news at Randwick that (the tests) were negative,” New South Wales racing Peter V’landys told Channel Nine.
“Other than that, there’s positives and symptoms all throughout NSW, and we could be looking at a month to two months without horse movement. We’re far from over.”
While Victoria and South Australia set to return to racing by the weekend, contingency plans are being looked at for NSW, including the possibility of running meetings at tracks such as Randwick and Warwick Farm, exclusively with horses that are based at those venues, with any movement of horses banned, as well as spectators.
“The only way we can eradicate this disease is to let it burn itself out,” V’landys said.
