Thurston involved in Townsville brawl
BREAKING NEWS
North Queensland and Kangaroos halfback Johnathan Thurston has been involved in a brawl on the streets of Townsville in the early hours of Sunday Morning.
The brawl is believed to have involved four people on Sturt Street at 4am, following the Cowboys thrilling win over Cronulla. One man was hospitalized. He was later discharged.
Thurston claims he was walking two women home, one a former girlfriend, when the incident erupted. “There’s no doubt there was an incident. I’ve investigated it along with several other members of the club. I’m happy with his version of events”, said Cowboys CEO Peter Parr on Fox Sports News. Parr immediately notified the NRL that Thurston is being investigated.
Thurston contacted Parr to tell him of Sunday morning’s events ‘first thing in the morning’. “It certainly wasn’t an alcohol fuelled incident, certainly on his behalf. I was with him earlier in the night and he wasn’t drinking alcohol”.
The Kangaroos half has the ‘complete support of the club’ according to Parr. “He wasn’t responsible, or the instigator in this incident”
Police are investigating.
