Tander extends series lead with win

HSV’s Garth Tander has extended his lead at the top of the V8 Supercar championship, with victory in the opening race of the Symmons Plains weekend.

Tander, who started from pole, eased to victory, finishing 3.2 seconds clear of championship rival Jamie Whincup, with Ford’s Mark Winterbottom and Steven Richards 3rd and 4th.

Tander started the penultimate weekend of the series 20 points clear of Craig Lowndes, with the 888 driver only managing 5th.
