Tander closes gap

Holden is back in the chase for the V8 Supercar championship, with Garth Tander winning the Gold Coast round, overtaking Craig Lowndes in the series and making significant headway on leader Jamie Whincup.
Tander and Whincup finished first and second in races 1 and 2 on the tight street circuit, before an action packed finale in the late Sunday afternoon sun.
Tander was given a drive-through penalty, while Whincup had a horror race, twice finding trouble. The first was pure driving error, forcing him back to the pack.
Holden’s Steven Richards won the third race, ahead of Jason Richards from Ford. Ford’s Russell Ingall crossed the line third, with his consistency rewarded with second place for the weekend. However, Tander rescued his race, snaking his way from 23rd to 8th, to win the weekend and reduce Whincup’s championship lead to just nine points.
Rick Kelly and Craig Lowndes, the other contenders for the serie title, has poor weekends.
