Sydney Spring carnival over

> Caulfield to go ahead

The racing industries worst fears have been realized, with equine influenza sweeping through Randwick, forcing the instant cancellation of the Sydney Spring Carnival.

Eight horses, all from the Anthony Cummings stable, have tested positive, with horses from Gai Waterhouse and Jim Lees stable also suspected of carrying the disease.

The government immediately ordered a halt to any activity at the Randwick Racecourse for at least two months.

EI has become an epidemic across the state, with 488 confirmed cases. 1646 more horses have shown symptoms

In breaking news, The Victorian government has immediately banned any New South Wales horse from attending their spring carnival.
