Streak over but Federer through

Roger Federer is two victories away from claiming a career grand slam, with a tough quarter final victory over Spaniard Tommy Robredo.

Federer dropped his first grand slam set in twelve matches, but steadied to humble his opponent 7-5, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Conditions were difficult at Roland Garros, with strong winds having an impact on the quality of the contest, particularly in the second set. “He played solid. He didn’t miss much”, Federer said of his first set loss in a slam since Andy Roddick won the second set of the 2006 US Open final. “I was playing wrong. Not using the wind to my advantage”

Federer will play Nikolay Davydenko in the semis.
