Staniforth cleared of major damage

Wallabies winger Scott Staniforth may be available for this weekend’s World Cup group finale against Canada, with scans on his injured shoulder revealing the damage from last week’s clash with Fiji was not as bad expected.

“I’ve basically got some bone bruising and some bruising in the muscle around the (injured) area,” Staniforth said.

“For a moment there I thought there was a possibility I’d be jumping on a plane home and now there’s a chance I could play against Canada this weekend. It’s been an up and down 24 hours for me.”

It’s unlikely coach John Connolly would risk rushing the Western Force winger into a game which will have little meaning, given the Wallabies should have no problems with the Canucks.

“There’s quite a bit of fluid in the (injured) area so we’ll just have to see how it all settles down. I’ll avoid contact work this week and see how it is on Friday,” Staniforth said
