Souths axe four for alcohol breach

South Sydney has stood down four players from its first grade team after the quartet turned up to Saturday morning’s recovery session with alcohol in their systems.

Ben Rogers, Eddie Paea, Jaiman Lowe and Fetuli Talanoa were made unavailable for selection this week, while David Kidwell has relinquished the captaincy.

“The players set themselves a standard which the club agreed with following last Friday night’s game, and these players didn’t meet these standards,” Rabbitohs Director of Football Operations Shane Richardson said.

“We want to point out that the players didn’t cause any trouble.”

Dean Widders will now move to five-eighth for Sunday’s match with North Queensland at ANZ Stadium.
