Sonny Bill finals in jeopardy

Sonny Bill - grade two charge

3:05 BREAKING NEWS - FIRST ON THE SERVE

Bulldogs superstar Sonny Bill Williams is facing at least a two week suspension, after being hit with a grade two striking charge by the NRL review committee.

The news for Souths is even worse, with David Fa’alogo’s season almost certainly over. His punch on Braith Anasta has resulted in a grade four striking charge, which added with carry over points, would see Fa’logo suspended for a minimum of five matches, unless he fights the charge at the judiciary and loses.

The incident involving Sonny Bill happened in the third minute of the Bulldogs loss to the Cowboys, with Williams appearing to strike Johnathan Thurston around the neck with a clumsy forearm. Williams immediately apologised to the Cowboys half.

Williams served two weeks at the start of the season after he knocked out Andrew Johns. That resulted in a 20% loading on this charge, while he had 62 carry over points, meaning an early guilty plea would still result in a two week supsension.

If the Bulldogs choose to fight the charge, as they are expected to do, Williams faces three weeks out.

Four players not involved in the finals were also charged.

Knights prop Adam Woolnough, as well as Tigers duo Bryce Gibbs and Chris Heighington were charged with careless high tackles. Gibbs is facing a one week ban, while the other two will escape suspension with an early guilty plea.

Luke O’Dywer from Gold Coast was charged with unnecessary contact of the neck/head region - a grapple tackle - but will also avoid suspension with an early guilty plea.
