Slow starting Hawks annilhilate Bulldogs

Hawthorn

> Bucks says scrap drugs policy now
> Bucks back with win

The Western Bulldogs have been put of their misery for 2007, overrun by Hawthorn 22.19.151 to 10.7.67 in the sunshine of the Telstra Dome.

Needing to win to maintain a hope of making the finals, the Bulldogs played with desperation, opening up a 33-5 lead late in the first term. Once the Hawks improved their accuracy in front of goal, they quickly swamped the Bulldogs and ran riot.

Hawthorn’s run was completely dominant from midway through the third quarter. The Bulldogs trailed 61-59 at the twelve minute mark of the third term, before Hawthorn piled on 13 of the last 14 goals.

Luke Hodge bagged six goals as well as 34 possessions in one of the performances of the season. Sam Mitchell pocketed 38 possessions, while Jordan Lewis landed 4 goals. The margin could have been so much greater had Lance Franklin not been so woeful in front of goal, finishing with a reprehensible 2.11.

Hawthorn’s win elevates them to third on the ladder for the time being, with their percentage almost impregnable compared with teams around them.
