Skaife only remote chance for Sandown

Mark Skaife

HRT driver Mark Skaife may still drive in this weekends Sandown 500, despite having an emergency appendix operation yesterday.

Skaife, who is due to partner Todd Kelly in the endurance race, is unlikely to take part in today’s practice session, however he has not completely ruled out the possibly of what would surely be a miracle comeback.

HRT delivered a statement yesterday, with Mark’s wife Toni speaking on Skaife’s behalf.

“There’s only a remote chance that Mark would be OK to drive. The operation finished up being a normal procedure, but Mark was really disappointed that such a thing should happen at this time of year,” Toni said.

A contingency plan is already in place, with Nathan Pretty to shift from the number two HRT car to partner Kelly, while veteran Tony Longhurst is set to be rushed in to fill Pretty’s place and drive with Glenn Seton.
