Short sharp Bollinger slices Tasmania
New South Wales quick Doug Bollinger continues to tear through the Tasmanian batting line up, skittling four batsmen for ducks in the first three overs of Tasmania’s second innings of the Pura Cup match at the SCG.
Bollinger took 6 for 68 off 21.1 overs in Tasmania’s first innings, which ended on 214, a deficit of 298. The Blues enforced the follow on, with the left-arm paceman bowling Michael Dighton with the first ball of the second innings. In his second over, Bollinger removed Michael Di Venuto for 0, caught behind. Next ball Bollinger trapped captain Daniel Marsh for a golden duck. The hat-trick went awry, however the ball after saw George Bailey caught by Phillip Hughes.
Tasmania were 4 for 11.
Bollinger only bowled four overs, taking 4 for 16, before being removed from the attack. Taking any bowler off with four wickets in four overs is almost unheard of, barring injury, however it is a common tactic for the Blues to use Bollinger in short stints.
Without the left-armer terrorising, Travis Burt and Luke Butterworth steadied the ship for Tasmania, with 37 and 27 not out respectively. Tasmania are 4 for 70 nearing tea on day 3, still 228 away from making the Blues bat again.
