Shepherd called up

Cameron Shepherd

Western Force utility Cameron Shepherd has been named as the Wallabies World Cup replacement for Mark Gerrard.

Gerrard was ruled out of the tournament when he ruptured knee ligaments during the Wallabies 91-3 win over Japan.

“Cameron covers wing and fullback. He was in the squad all of last year and toured with the team,” said Wallabies coach John Connolly.

“He’s regained his form and confidence in the ARC.

Shepherd beat out a host of contenders, including Lachlan Turner, Digby Ioane, Clinton Schifcofske and Ryan Cross.

“Basically we went for the experience,” Connolly said.
