Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens has reacted to his sides abysmal 37-12 loss to South Sydney by claiming his side ‘owes fans an apology’.
The loss leaves the Tigers out of the top eight with one round remaining and virtually needing Brisbane to lose against Parramatta to have any chance of qualifying for the finals. Sheens questioned whether there’s any point in that scenario eventuating.
“On that form, we’d be cannon fodder going in against Manly or Melbourne.
“We’ve taken what was our own destiny and blown it.”
Many experts were expecting Souths to be the team overawed by the occasion. This was blown out of the water quickly as the Rabbitohs established dominance in the forwards.
“We had our chances, it just seemed whatever we tried didn’t work out. Then frustration creeps in,” Sheens said.
“At the end of the day you’ve still got to make tackles, and there was too many missed tackles”
“I think we owe our fans an apology for that”
Souths have now won five out of their last six matches, with a spot in finals all but assured. The win comes six days after the Rabbitohs emotional win over Manly
“We’ve been playing in these sort of games for a few weeks now,” said Jason Taylor
The Tigers can still overtake Souths, if the Tigers can take care of Newcastle on Friday, the Bunnies were to lose to the Roosters on Saturday and 41 points of for and against made up.
“Very disappointing that with twenty minutes to, people (were) leaving. Very disappointing,” Sheens said.
