Gasnier fined but keeps captaincy

Mark Gasnier will retain the Dragons captaincy, despite his involvement in a late night Kings Cross scuffle which culminated in gunfire.

Gasnier is alleged to have been in a fight before shots were fired at Parramatta trio Jarryd Hayne, Weller Hauraki and Junior Paulo after 4am on Monday. Gasnier was fined an undisclosed amount by the Dragons.

“The club is concerned with the social example set by Mark and his failure to meet the expected recovery and rehabilitation standards demanded of professional athletes at the Dragons,” a Dragons statement said.

The statement failed to cover the alleged altercation.

“I sincerely apologise for the poor example I have set in this instance. It comes down to choices and I have no one to blame other than myself,” Gasnier said.
