Sharapova down to final four

Two time major winner Maria Sharapova has made the semi finals of the French Open for the first time. Sharapova beating compatriot Anna Chakvetadze 6-3, 6-4.

The smooth victory was welcome relief for the reigning US Open champion, after her marathon fourth round grind against Patty Schnyder. “After that emotional win, I felt a little more relaxed, I know Anna’s game very well”.

Sharapova will meet Serbian Ana Ivanovic in the semis. “My shoulder held up after that tough one (against Patty), which was good. Hopefully it will for the next match”.
