Serena through to quarters

Serena Williams has booked an Australian Open quarter final spot, with the defending champion beating 12th seed Nicole Vaidisova 6-3, 6-4.

The Czech kept up with the eight-time slam champion for the most part, however a sense of inevitability hovered over the contest, with Williams however a loose game in the eighth game allowed Williams to break and take the set 6-3.

Vaidisova bkore through the Williams serve in the second set, but Serena picked up two breaks of her own to close out the match in 1:13.

The form of Serena is more than encouraging. Williams fired 23 winners, with only 11 unforced errors.

Williams will take on either 3rd seed Jelena Jankovic or unseeded Australian Casey Dellacqua in the quarters.
