An error-riddled Serena Williams has lost the first set against 3rd seed Jelena Jankovic 3-6 in their Australian Open quarter final.

In a match that so far has belied the pair’s top ten rankings, Williams has looked surprisingly lethargic in the Rod Laver Arena sun, dumping 16 unforced errors. The 7th seed’s serve has been a feeding frenzy for the steadier Jankovic, who broke three times.
Serena has looked far more comfortable receiving, creating seven break points but taking just one.
The pair have a 2-2 head-to-head record, with Williams winning their last meeting, a straight sets triumph in the 2007 Australian Open round of 16.
