Saints: We won’t use our first pick for Gehrig

Almost three months after making a snap decision to retire, former West Coast and St.Kilda full-forward has nominated himself in Saturday’s draft.

Gehrig, who has played 255 for 540 goals, including two Coleman medals, shocked those who were close to him with his decision to reverse his retirement. The giant made an almost fairytale farewell when he booted five goals in the Saints last round win over Richmond.

St.Kilda’s first selection in the draft in pick nine, something the Saints won’t be spending on the 31 year old.

Daniel Chick, Ashley Sampi and Essendon’s Mark Johnson are some of the other big name players to nominate for the draft.

Gehrig is overseas until Christmas.
