Roy Asotasi: We are worse than school kids

South Sydney’s dreadful start to the 2008 season has reached a new low, with captain Roy Asotasi labelling his team ‘school kids’.

Souths fought hard in its 32-18 loss to a slick Brisbane Broncos outfit, however the Rabbitohs were left lamenting silly mistakes at crucial stages, a familiar feeling in its seven week winless streak.

Asotasi was ropable with his side, who were in the hunt at 6-10, before a three try patch in 17 minutes either side of half time stretched Brisbane’s lead beyond the Bunnies reach.

“Me and (David Kidwell) addressed them,” he said. “I said we were playing like school kids.”

“School kids are better than us.”

Souths will scarcely get a better opportunity to beat the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium, with Brisbane’s bench resembling the walking wounded. Centre Steve Michaels was carried off in the first half with a serious knee injury, while Justin Hodges was battling the flu and a shoulder problem. Sam Thaiday had a mighty game, however he had to leave with a bloody mouth, while Tonie Carroll had knee concerns.

“We thought we were a chance at halftime,” Souths coach Jason Taylor said. “The Broncos had a couple of injured boys.”

“We just killed ourselves in the second half with stupid errors.

“The errors that we’re making are embarrassing,” Taylor said.

Souths remain locked in last spot, two wins behind the Dragons and Eels.
