Roos dismisses match-fixing claims

Sydney Swans coach Paul Roos has denied accusations that he ordered his side to lose in the NAB Cup.

Roos has been accused by an interchange steward of telling Jarrod McVeigh not to kick a goal in the dying stages of Hawthorn’s close win over the Swans in the opening round of the knock out event.

Roos faces a fine of up to $100,000.

The Swans are noted stragglers in the pre-season competition, with Roos openly using the matches to blood youngsters. The Sydney coach says the headlines are hurting his reputation.

“It can be a bit of a slight on your character, but I know what I represent as a person, I know what I represent for this footy club and for this group of players and as long as you’re comfortable when you put your head down on the pillow at night and you can go to sleep, I think that’s the main thing.”

Roos will face the AFL in coming days.
