Roddick eases pasts Kamikaze Dlouhy
Andy Roddick made short work of a wayward Lukas Dlouhy to march into the second round of the Australian Open.
Roddick barely motioned out of second gear, winning 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. The Czech clearly believed his only shot at an upset was to take risks, a ploy which resulted in 44 unforced errors and little else.
“I don’t know if there was much rhythm to be had with the way he kind of went about the match.” Roddick said.
“It’s weird to kind of feel like you got a lot out of it when some guy’s kind of taking the first ball and just charging.
“Those are the type of matches where if you’re not match-tough can get a little tricky. I just kind of tried to stay the course and get through his kind of peaks and valleys.”
A pleasing aspect for Roddick is the rhythm of his serve. The Kooyong winner fired 13 aces, but it was his first serve accuracy, landing 44 of 58 (76%), that was particularly eye-catching.
The major talking point has been the new Plexi-Cushion surface, a topic Roddick is clearly over, although he admits the new hard court is “gritty”. Roger Federer and Serena Williams have given the new blue look their stamp of approval, however Roddick wasn’t interested in a debate about colour.“I don’t really care. Half my family is colour blind anyway, so it doesn’t matter.”
