Rocca impresses critics

Sav Rocca has taken a giant step towards scoring a permanent gig with the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Football League, after an ultra impressive performance in the pre-season clash with rivals Pittsburgh.
Coach Andy Reid had Rocca on for the first half, with regular kicker Dirk Johnson in the second. Rocca was pin-point accurate, landing three punts inside the Pittsburgh 10 year line, including a monster 62 yard bomb, which was subsequently fumbled by Steelers returner Willie Read.
The Courier Daily declared “The Eagles’ much-ballyhooed punting competition may well be over,” while the Philadelphia Daily News was even more effusive.
“The good news for Dirk Johnson is that he will have a job in the NFL this season. That was apparent in the first quarter of the Eagles’ 27-13 exhibition loss to the Steelers last night when Pittsburgh punter Daniel Sepulveda fouled one off from his end zone, giving the Eagles a first down on the Steelers’ 20 and leading to the Eagles’ only first-half points.
“The bad news for Johnson is, that job is less likely to be in Philly today than it was yesterday. That was apparent by the second quarter when Australian import Sav Rocca bombed a high, hanging, 59-yard punt from the Eagles’ 27-yard line that sent Steelers returner Willie Reid spiraling backward inside his 10.”
The Eagles have one pre season game remaining before the regular season commences.
