Riley 1 from 1 as Demons outshoot Blues
In the tradition of mid-season coaching changes, it was almost inevitable that caretaker Demons leader Mark Riley would score a win in his first outing.
Riley has plenty of excitement on debut, his Melbourne side maintaining a slender lead for most of the see-sawing contest. The Demons were missing David Neitz up forward, bit Russell Robertson picked up the slack, booting five goals straight.
Riley spent the press conference downplaying his personal achievement.
“I’m really pleased for the boys. Pleased for the football club”
Melbourne moves to three wins for the season, one win behind the Blues.
“It was just fantastic to see how the club operated during a very difficult week”, Riley said.
