Reds confirm quarter final

12mar08-int0liv1Reds confirm quarter final

Liverpool has ensured that half of the teams in UEFA Champions League quarter finals will be English, thanks to their 1-0 win (3-0 aggregate) over Inter Milan at the San Siro.

Fernando Torres’ low shot from the edge of the penalty area on 63 minutes put Inter out of its misery.

Starting the tie two goals down, the hosts made the running in the first half, without reward. Once Inter’s Nicolas Burdisso was red-carded on 50 minutes for a second bookable offence, Liverpool’s place in the final eight was all but assured.

With the Reds, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea all winning their second phase ties, history has been made with four teams from the same nation qualifying for the Champions League quarter finals for the first time.
