Red hot Cats blow Demons away

Geelong has reminded the rest of the AFL that they are by far the measuring stick for season 2008, with a crushing 71 point annihilation of Melbourne at Skilled Stadium.

The Cats made an early season statement with a blistering performance, with the perennially troubled Steve Johnson starring with a bag of six goals. Geelong had several grand final heroes in the stands.

Geelong blew the game apart in the opening term, piling on eight goals. Cameron Ling, Mathew Stokes and Brent Prismall collected 35 touches each, while Brownlow medallist Jimmy Bartel picked up 27. Of concern would have been the calf strain to Gary Ablett, however the injury has been described as ‘minor’.

Several big names are expected to return for Geelong’s quarter final against St.Kilda.
