Rawlinson a world champ again

Jana Rawlinson

> Mottram eases into 5000 final

Jana Pittman was a world champion. Jana Rawlinson is a world champion. Twice.

Rawlinson’s second world crown was a near thing, when the Australian tip toed towards the final hurdle, allowing Yulinya Pechonkina to have a sniff, however Rawlinson extended and won in 53.31, ninteenth hundredths of a second clear.

Stating she would have been happy with a top five finish before the meet began, the momentum was irrepressible.

Rawlinson joins Cathy Freeman as Australia’s only two time athletics world champions. This title comes just eight months after giving birth to her first child.

“It’s been a funny week. We obviously heard about Kerryn McCann and that really puts things into perspective,” Rawlinson told SBS.
