Randwick horse tests positive to EI

A major setback for the racing industry, with Randwick Racecourse shut down following news that a thoroughbred had returned an initial positive test to equine influenza.
The horse is from the stable of trainer Anthony Cummings. Until now, no thoroughbred had tested positive to EI.
“This is an absolute disaster,” racing NSW boss Peter V’Landys told the Sydney Morning Herald. “This is the news Australian racing did not want to hear: we can only pray the
second sample returns a negative.”
All horses at the course will be confined to their stables, with thoughts of setting up a betting parlour at Randwick for the weekend in jeopardy.
