Rampant Djokovic bagels Ferrer in first set

World number three Novak Djokovic has ruthlessly won the first set of his Australian Open quarter final against 5th seed David Ferrer 6-0 in just 23 minutes.

Djokovic, a semi-finalist at least in the previous three slams, has continued the form that saw him blow away home town hero Lleyton Hewitt in the fourth round, conceding just 11 points for the entire set. The Spaniard earned a break point in the fifth, but it’s been the Serbian who has been all over Ferrer’s serve.

The match so far has failed to resemble their previous meeting, two months ago at the Shanghai Masters Cup. That day the red-hot Ferrer beat Djokovic in straight sets on his way to the season-ending final.

Today’s winner will meet face either world number one Roger Federer or James Blake.
