Positive Alicia dancing back

Why didn’t Alicia Molik do Dancing With The Stars years ago?
This version, oozing with confidence and presence, would have been so handy in that golden run of 2005.

Back then, Molik was a top 10 player. Today, she stands as a player ravaged by illness, outside the top 50, years removed from the elite. Yet the old Molik, almost apologetic when beating top-liners, has been replaced by a woman who now looks into the camera when interviewed on court. A woman who stands with shoulders back, boasting about not being afraid to lose.
This is a now proud woman, so comfortable being on show.
Tonight, Alicia was down 0-3 in the first set against Kaia Kanepi. No problem. Said she was happy with her game.
Huh?
“At no point did I ever feel under the pump.”
Would the 2005 version have said that?
“I was prepared to lose that breaker, being aggressive and being attacking.”
Would the old Molik be so bold?
If these comments were coming from an American accent, one would be forgiven for accusing Molik of being cocky to the point of arrogance. Having seen how affable and downright nice she is, arrogance is one thing Molik is not.
Truth is Molik did the right things at the right times tonight. This was a messy match punctuated by the occasional big play. Would it be enough to trouble the 12th seed in the next match?
“I know I’m going to get chances - it’s just what I do with those chances I think that will really decide whether I win or not.”
Who would doubt her?
