Players right to dump Seven

Michael Braun

I want to say two things about the drugs policy.

It is totally abhorrent and the players should walk away from it. The violation of the breach of trust is absolutely reprehensible.

The drug code was brought into vogue purely in the premise of confidentiality. Now, these insidious, parasitic, Tom, Dick and Harry’s are walking around the streets with stolen documents trying to make an earn.

It makes a mockery of the whole policy.

The role of Channel Seven should not be swept under the carpet either. Remember this was the organization that made life a nightmare for Michael Braun only a few weeks ago. I totally support players blackballing Seven’s Brownlow Medal, while I applaud Collingwood and Adelaide players threatening to boycott speaking to Seven on Friday night.

Secondly, what is even more concerning is the amount of players who are clearly running the gauntlet. We have examples of players openly admitting to West Coast coach John Worsfold that they’ve dabbled, as well as the alleged players in this instance. It is obvious that players are happy taking the risk of being caught, while they have the luxury of a couple of get of jail cards up their sleeve.

We need a code, but the one we have is clearly not working.
