The Big 5: NRL Round 20

Brad Fittler, Sonny Bill’s steal, Melbourne’s loss, Brisbane and Manly. They provide the big 5 for NRL round 20.
5. Should the Roosters sign Brad Fittler now?
Here’s what we know: Fittler has been doing this for three games, is yet to face any adversity, and as a Roosters stalwart, is in no danger of joining another club anytime soon, so why the rush? Given the club has gone through two coaches in ten months, Roosters management have no need to make a hasty decision, except to make a statement. One thing is for certain, if Freddy can make it four from four against with victory against the Warriors, that statement will require no further delay.
4. Was Sonny Bill lucky to be awarded his ‘steal’ try?
Technically it was a genuine 50/50, however second man in Brad Morrin played absolutely no part in a play that was so simple it was arrogant. Sonny Bill proves his worth each week, particularily in games where the Dogs are undermanned. How 14% of fans in the recent Daily Telegraph poll could believe he is overrated makes you wonder who is watching this sport.
3. Are their cracks in the Melbourne Storm?
Claiming a team needs to have a loss is ambitious and glib, yet this effort was a long time coming. The Storm have barely needed to push themselves in easy wins over Newcastle and Canberra, with bad habits beginning to surface. The resting of Matt Geyer and Ryan Hoffman may have benefits at the back end of the year, however this has a look not dissimilar to the 2001 Parramatta side, which Brian Smith started to tinker with when results were superfluous.
2. Can Brisbane win big games without their guns?
The Broncos were impressive in attack against Cronulla, but then again they didn’t have much to get through. This was a must win game for Brisbane, given their horror draw. The fifteen year streak of making the finals remains far from safe.
1. Have Manly silenced the knockers?
What else can they do? They’ve beaten everyone that matters, except for the Cowboys. Yesterday’s win over Parramatta was away from home in a big game atmosphere, not only achieved with their typical grind, but attack when needed. Over 150 points in four games suggests the Sea Eagles have weapons, however their style lends itself to doubters. Those knockers wont be silenced until Manly reach the final dance.

i watch just about every game each week of the NRL series. having foxtel does has its perks. In saying this I do have to agree with the 14% of fans that beleive he is overated. Don’t get me wrong he is an exciting player, and a strong runner at that, but so is up and comer Dave Taylor for the broncs and the ever impressive folau for the storm. If i had as many compo days off work as what sonny bill has had i would have been fired 10 times over.
yes he is entertaining and yes he is a good player but come on, he has spent more time on the bench than the benches themselves. and when was the last time you saw him stick out a full 80 mins like my mate Civena and then back it up 2 days later and play another 60 mins.
thats right never.
