No celebrations for Cats
There were no celebrations in the Geelong dressing rooms, with the theme of the Cats victory over Collingwood and entry into the AFL grand final being strictly business.
“Straight down to business, mate,” said Cameron Ling on ABC Radio.
Ling was critical of his teams performance, the clubs 18th win in its last 19 matches.
“We didn’t play that well. Not happy how we went about things,” Ling said.
“A few of the blokes were down, myself included.
“If we want to win a premiership, we need to have a contribution from all 22.”
The Cats could never break away from Collingwood, with their 18 point lead in the final term eroded to five points with just under a minute left.
“The one thing we can take out of it, is the fact we lifted,” Ling said.
“We feel we deserve to be there (in the grand final). We’re going to be playing out best footy.”
Ling also refuted suggestions that the week’s break harmed the team.
“We can’t really blame it on that. There were just little patches where we played good footy, but there were patches where we were pretty ordinary.”
When the subject of a prospective grand final opponent was raised, Ling let the cat out of the bag when it was put to him that the Kangaroos would be a better fit for Geelong than Port Adelaide, given the Cats annihilation of the Roos only a fortnight ago.
“Oh yeah, I suppose,” Ling told ABC.
