Rafael Nadal has played his part, beating a weary Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4 to win his second match at the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai. Now Nadal needs the remaining match in the Gold Group to fall favourably.

Nadal seized control early, racing to a 4-1 lead in the first set. Djokovic would take back one break, however the Spaniard showed too much control to clinch the set.The world number two broke early in the second set, how the Serb had two break points at 3-4 down. Nadal held out and the match was history. The ideal result for Nadal in the following match would be David Ferrer defeating Richard Gasquet. However if the Frenchman was to win, Nadal would still likely qualify for the sem-finals. Djokovic will go home having failed to win a set in Shanghai, let alone a match.
