Mourinho: I might want England job
Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has shocked the football world by refusing to rule out taking over the England national job.
But the FA would have to woo him.
The ‘Special One’ is home in Portugal after being relieved of his post at Stamford Bridge two months ago. He has previously stated national posts don’t interest him, however Mourinho appeared to have an open mind when contacted yesterday.
“I rule nothing out,” Mourinho told Britain’s The Sun newspaper.
“You will have to speak to the FA to see if they are interested in offering me the job.”
Opinion polls across England have unanimously called for FA chief Brian Barwick to anoint Mourinho, despite the Portuguese legend never showing interest in the position, until now.
“I cannot say what I think until they say they are interested. Tell the FA to come and get me.”
The England job became vacant when Steve McClaren was axed following failure to qualify for the finals of Euro 2008. The job has also lost its sheen with major football for England now not on the short-term horizon. Mourinho insists it’s not a deal-breaker.
“There is no such thing as an impossible job in football,” Mourinho told The Sun.
