More wickets for Bollinger as Blues finish Tasi
Tasmania’s batsmen might be permanently scarred by the thought of facing left-arm pacemen, as Nathan Bracken finished off Doug Bollinger’s work to see off the Tigers on the final day of their Pura Cup game at the SCG.
Bollinger, who took 6 for 68 in the first innings, removed Travis Birt (77) and Sean Clingeleffer (6) in his first three overs of the morning. At that point, Bollinger had all six second innings wickets.
Luke Butterworth and Brett Geeves provided resistance, Butterworth making a well earned century. Geeves ground out 20 off 75 balls as dark weather descended over the SCG. The breakthrough came when Bracken ripped through Geeves’ defence. Butterworth suffered the same fate a short time later, for 116.
Brendan Drew became Bracken’s third victim, again bowled. The end came when fringe Australian paceman Ben Hilfenhaus was caught by Matt Nicholson off Bracken.
Tasmania was dismissed in the early afternoon for 263, handing New South Wales victory by an innings and 35 runs.
The Blues continue to be the Pura Cup trendsetters, notching up its third outright win in four matches. Victoria have a similar record, however the Blues are ahead of the Bushrangers courtesy of picking up first innings points against Queensland. Tasmania remain fourth on the table, with 6 points from its four games.
Bollinger, with career-best match figures of 12 for 131, was unquestionably the man of the match.
