Mayweather knocks out Hatton

Floyd Mayweather has knocked out Ricky Hatton to remain undefeated and undisputed welterweight champion of the world.

Mayweather (39-0) dominated the Vegas bout, using his extensive reach and speech to frustrate the popular Briton (43-1). Mayweather knocked Hatton out 1:35 into the 10th round.

Hatton started spritely, appearing to rock Mayweather in the opening round with a left. The American backed back, before regaining composure. Hatton’s tactics of walking forward and nullifying Mayweather’s superior reach backfired, with the pound-for-pound king of boxing picking off the Manchester lad with a series of well timed jabs. A cut above Hatton’s right eye emerged in the third round.

Hatton was deducted a point for the first time in his career when referee Joe Cortez judged the Briton to have punched Mayweather in the back of the head. Replays indicated contact may not have been made, however it appeared like a clumsy effort from Hatton.
