Maria cruises, Henin next

Maria Sharapova’s stranglehold over Russian compatriot Elena Dementieva has continued, with the world number 5 scoring a comprehensive 6-2, 6-0 thrashing in their fourth round Australian Open clash on Vodafone Arena.

The 2007 Melbourne Park finalist was in sparkling form, an ideal lead-in to a quarter final against world number one Justin Henin, who has also breezed through the first week without losing a set.

Sharapova monstered the 11th seed’s brittle serve, winning a staggering 26 of 37 points when receiving. The highest ranked Russian was ruthless on break points, converting 6 of 7.

Sharapova now owns an 8-2 head-to-head record over Dementieva.
