Let Peter Brock rest in peace
DAILY SERVE: Tues 13/2
Please tell me this is a joke. Plans to restore and exhibit the car which claimed the life of Peter Brock are not only repulsive, they are also reflective of a society which can find monetary value in a sandwich half-eaten by a pop star.
What possible joy could be derived of peering through a crashed car? Are we that ghoulish? Apparently the vehicle has been restored. Fine then, if it looks like new, go to a shop which sells a Daytona Coupe, or wait for the motor show.
His co-driver on the fateful journey, Mick Hone, says it’s part of history and is worth preserving. That doesn’t necessarily mean the public should have rubbernecking access. The family are against it, colleagues hate it, even the guy who rebuilt the car doesn’t want his work on show. Apart from Hone, the only person who seems to be in favour is the bloke who will have his hand out at the front door. He’ll probably make a fortune out of it. Some friend.
Brock was best known as Peter ‘Perfect’. His legacy was winning, fast and safe. He made one mistake, which has cost him his life. For fifteen bucks a peek, it may also cost him his dignity.
