Landis stripped of Tour title

Floyd Landis

Floyd Landis has been officially stripped of his 2006 Tour De France title.

Landis tested positive to a banned testosterone during the tour, was found guilty today by a US arbitration panel.

Three panel members were satisfied Landis injected himself with testosterone.

The decision means Spaniard Oscar Pereiro will be awarded the title.

The American released a statement shortly after the verdict was delivered.

“This ruling is a blow to athletes and cyclists everywhere,” Landis said.

“For the Panel to find in favour of USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) when, with respect to so many issues, USADA did not manage to prove even the most basic parts of their case shows that this system is fundamentally flawed. I am innocent, and we proved I am innocent.”

Landis faces a two year ban from cycling.
