India puts Sri Lanka out of its misery

Australia will play India in the best-of-three one Day series finals, after the Indians crushed a meek Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in Hobart.

Sri Lanka’s brittle batting was again exposed, with just two of the top six reaching double figures. Chamara Kapugedera’s 57 helped lift Sri Lanka from 7/93, but not even he could help present the Indians with any sort of challenging target. Find-of-the-summer Ishant Sharma collected four wickets, as did Praveen Kumar.

Chasing 179, India lost Robin Uthappa for 11, before Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir put on a second wicket partnership 102. Tendulkar looked sublime, making 63 off 54 balls. Gambhir (63 not out) happily played the anchor role, as Yuvraj Singh chimed in with a sparkling 36. The target was reached with 106 balls to spare.

Sri Lanka will conclude their tour with a match against Australia in Melbourne on Friday.
