India dumps Hogg charge

Peace talks between rival skippers Anil Kumble and Ricky Ponting have had an immediate effect, with Brad Hogg’s level three Code of Conduct charge dropped.

Kumble and Ponting met with ICC chief referee Ranjan Madugalle in Perth, two days before the start of the third test.

“It was just one of those incidents, probably made in the heat of the moment and it was important that we moved on,” Kumble said.

“So in view of that, we decided as a team that we withdraw the charge made against Brad Hogg.

“Cricket is larger than the individual and it was important that we forgot about what happened in Sydney as one of those bad moments and that it was time to move on.”

The news will be welcome relief for Hogg, who was accused of calling Kumble and MS Dhoni “bastards” on the final day of the heated SCG showdown, however with Shaun Tait on the horizon, the leg-spinner is no certainty to play at the WACA.
