Hussey: MacGill is courageous

Stuart MacGill has had more support from within the Australian test team, with Mike Hussey and Stuart Clark publically backing the besieged leg-spinner.

After a week of heavy criticism following a below par series against Sri Lanka, MacGill is reportedly considering having season-ending knee surgery, placing his international career at risk.

“I’m disappointed some people are having a bit of go at him, because he showed so much courage in Hobart,” Hussey said.

“He was really struggling with his knee and to show that courage is a sign of the man.”

Brad Hogg is a ready made replacement, however his limited test career has been underwhelming, with just 9 wickets from four tests.

“(Losing MacGill would leave) a massive hole. He’s arguably the second greatest leg-spinner of all time,” Stuart Clark said.

If MacGill was to sit the season out, he would not be available until after his 37th birthday. The age factor irrelevant though according to Clark.

“I think Brad Hogg’s 37, Shane Warne was 37 and playing. It’s up to Stuart.”
